Sotesi became a user of the "Functional Bed" service model

Sotesi became a user of the "Functional Bed" service model

The Sastamala Region's Social and Health Services (Sotesi), in cooperation with Lojer, started to consider the outfitting of hospital wards, nursing homes and service homes in the early 2010s. Sotisi's challenge was the aging beds that were used by many manufacturers. Ordering maintenance from different locations was expensive and slow.

"Beds are not our core competence, but care. It is important for us that the bed works and that it is comfortable for the patient and ergonomic for the nurse," says Päivi Tryyki, Sotesi Social and Health Director. Lojer had previously worked as a supplier of Sotesi hospital beds. Piloting a functional bed model started in 2011. In the service model, Sotesi rents the bed with his mattress at Lojer at a monthly rate. The price includes maintenance, spare parts and inspections.

- Since 2013, all our beds have been leased from Lojer. At the same time, Lojer bought our old bed. Now we do not have stocks of unused and broken equipment, but we get exactly the number of beds we need at the moment, says Tryyki.

Functional bed for home care

Previously, the acquisition of functional beds was also a problem in home care. A good care bed made it easier for clients to care at home, but their purchase was expensive.

- In home care, relatives could previously buy a cot when needed. The problem with the bed came when it was no longer needed. Selling a treatment bed to others might have been difficult, and because of their size, it was difficult to maintain, says Päivi Tryyki. Today, Sotesi rents beds to home care clients.
- We have received really good feedback from relatives. Renting is convenient, and the rent per month is small compared to the cost of purchasing a baby bed.

"We focus on caring"

In the functional bed model, maintenance is included in the monthly rent of the bed. Lojer guarantees service response time on weekdays 24 hours.

- We always have a working bed available. The most important thing for us is that the system works. We can then focus on care, Päivi Tryyki points out. The service model used by Sotes has attracted interest on the municipal and private side. According to Tryyk, in particular, many health entrepreneurs are thinking about moving to a service.

- I recommend, especially in the case of large investments, to consider other solutions than buying new medical devices as their own. Our managers, caregivers and customers are happy with the service model. We would not want to return to the old one any more.
